Abstract

Communicative based English learning has become a relevant approach for improving public speaking skills, particularly in non-formal education settings such as PKBM. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of communicative public speaking instruction in enhancing learners’ self-confidence, verbal ability, and classroom participation among Paket C students at PKBM Ummatan Wasathan. A descriptive qualitative method was applied through a literature review to gather theoretical frameworks, empirical findings, and relevant communicative teaching concepts. The results indicate that communicative learning strategies significantly improve learners’ interaction, willingness to speak, and ability to organize ideas coherently and systematically. Moreover, psychological factors such as confidence and mental readiness were found to be essential components that developed through repeated practice and constructive feedback. This study implies the need for more varied and contextual communicative-based public speaking strategies in PKBM to support the development of learners’ communicative competence.
