Abstract

Education is one of the main pillars in creating a fair and equal society in recognizing the roles of men and women within the structure of life. Despite various efforts, gender inequality remains a complex issue. This study aims to examine the role of education as a primary instrument in promoting gender equality through a literature review and a qualitative approach. Data were collected through an analysis of accredited journal articles and interviews with several teachers in Gorontalo Province. The findings reveal that education plays a strategic role in eliminating gender stereotypes, fostering equal access, and empowering women to participate in various spheres of life. Educational policies, gender-equitable curriculum, and capacity-building for educators are identified as key factors in creating gender-sensitive environments. Interviews with teachers highlighted that gender bias, both conscious and unconscious, persists in classroom practices. This study recommends enhanced awareness campaigns on gender equality, training for teachers and parents, and synergy between policies and community participation to support the implementation of gender-equitable education. Through these measures, education can serve as an effective driver of social change in building a society free from gender-based discrimination.
